With the Classic Circle Scrubby you can create beautiful, functional household items or thoughtful gifts with this versatile knit pattern! Perfect for quick projects, this scrubby can be completed in under an hour.

Worked flat, the pattern begins with your favorite quick cast-on, followed by a series of short rows, and finishes with Kitchener Stitch for a seamless look. Whether you’re knitting for personal use or to sell, this pattern is a joy to create.

Seed Scrubber

Summer of Scrubbies 2025 KAL seed scrubber knit pattern free scrubby knitting pattern

The Seed Scrubber is a perfect addition to any household and makes a thoughtful gift! This knit pattern can also be used to create items for sale—just make sure to give me credit for the pattern.

The Seed Scrubber is worked flat and comes in four different sizes, so you can make one that’s just the right fit for your hands. Every scrubby collection needs a rectangular scrubby, and this one is both practical and fun to make!

Mighty Mitered Scrub

Mighty Mitered Scrub solid and striped in three sizes. Knit pattern for scrubby.

A sponge that can scrub? Yes, please! The Mighty Mitered Scrub pattern is where spongy scrub yarn meets a multi-directional knit to maximize the scrub effect. You will love to have one of these in your scrub arsenal!

Worked flat, this is a mitered square that uses garter stitch and a center decrease to create stitches and rows that go two directions. The raised center creates a ridge of scrubbing for those really tough spots.

Mosaic Scrubby

Like tiles or windows, the Mosaic Scrubby is a visual delight for getting those kitchen or bathroom tiles clean!

The Mosaic Scrubby is knit using two colors and worked flat from the bottom up utilizing mosaic knitting style. We will only be working with one yarn at a time, making this a breeze to knit. Whether you’re knitting for personal use or to sell, this pattern is beautiful.

Biased Scrubber

Free scrubby yarn knit pattern: Biased Scrubby

You guessed it! The Biased Scrubby is knit on the bias. And what better yarn to use for a classic design, than a classic material – cotton. Using Yarn Bee’s Scrub-ology Cotton, you can knit yourself up as many of these delightfully Biased Scrubbies as you like.

The pattern comes in 4 sizes, the smallest one being perfect for make up removers. Can’t wait to see how your Biased Scrubby turns out!

Rocket Pop Scrubby

Rocket Pop Scrubby, a free knit scrubby pattern, red heart scrubby sparkle knit pattern

Is it even really summer if you aren’t enjoying a tasty Rocket Pop treat? I don’t know… And even if you opt for different flavors than the U.S. red, white and blue, you can still enjoy a Rocket Pop Scrubby! Knit flat in garter stitch, we use small decreases to create the top of this popsicle. Then picking up stitches and knitting an i-cord hanging loop on the bottom, your scrubby has a perfect popsicle stick look!

Customization options include how to knit one and two color versions. What flavor will your popsicle be?

Scrubbin’ on Sunshine

Watermelon Wedge Scrub

Watermelon Wedge Scrub free knit pattern

What summer is complete without a wedge of delicious watermelon! Of course, if watermelon isn’t your thing, you could mix up your yarn color choices and make a wedge of whatever fruit you like!

Knit flat and using simple decreases, this pattern is a breeze to knit!

Flower Power Scrub

Flower power scrub a free knit pattern featuring loops & threads squeaky clean yarn

The flowery shape of this scrub brings a bit of whimsy and delight to your cleaning area. I recommend using a print yarn so you can enjoy the spontaneous pooling that really brings this pattern to life.

Knit flat using short rows, you will finish this scrubby using mattress stitch to seam it altogether.

Summer of Scrubbies 2025 Yarn Recommendations

Here are yarn recommendations for ALL of the patterns above. Best of all I’ve included some easy substitutions for you so that you don’t have to wonder which yarns you can swap.

Each pattern takes anywhere from 5-24 yards/5-23 meters of yarn, depending on which size you choose to knit. Most patterns include 3 or more sizes. If you choose to knit more than one of each pattern, you should purchase yarn according to how many scrubbies you wish to make.

On page 3, I have given yarn recommendations based on yarn type, rather than brand name and yarn line. These substitutions have not been tested, but should work based on yarn structure and weight. For these, I have combined the number of patterns that will utilize that “type” of yarn. In addition I included the minimum amount of yards/meters needed based on you knitting only one size per pattern.

Please note: there may be bonus patterns that have a different yarn than what is listed here. I will regularly update this section so that you can have the most up to date information possible. Last updated 4.22.2025

This type of yarn is used in three of the scrubby patterns and will use approximately 15-60 yards in total to knit one size in each of the three patterns. To cover all the patterns that use this type of yarn you will want to select at least 2 colors, at least one should be a solid color.

Other Yarn Recommendations

Rico Designs Creative Bubble Solids & Prints Scrubby Yarn

For the patterns that use Rico Creative Bubble, there really are not any similar types for that other than the sparkly yarns. However, the Rico Creative Bubble is a weight 2 yarn, compared to most sparkly yarns that are a weight 4. You may choose to substitute, but remember that the quantity of yarn and the finished object size may be different. Rico Creative Bubble is used in one pattern and will use approximately 7-25 yards.

Herrschner’s Suds & Scrub Yarn flower scrubby knit work in progress wip

For the patterns that use Herrschner’s, there really is not a similar type of scrubby yarn to it. If you would like to not use Herrschner’s you may choose any yarn, including a regular cotton dish yarn. Select at least 2 colors, and think fruit colors for a rind and fruit center. Herrschner’s yarn is used in two patterns and will use approximately 12-40 yards.
