Seed Scrubber: Herrschner’s Suds & Scrub Free Knit Scrubby Pattern Introduction
The Seed Scrubber is a perfect addition to any household and makes a thoughtful gift! This knit pattern can also be used to create items for sale—just make sure to give me credit for the pattern.
The Seed Scrubber is worked flat and comes in four different sizes, so you can make one that’s just the right fit for your hands. Every scrubby collection needs a rectangular scrubby, and this one is both practical and fun to make!
Feel free to knit this for yourself, others and for sale. Please give me credit when selling items made from this pattern.
Skills
This project is suited for knitters who are comfortable to work in, or who are open to learning the following skills and techniques:
Cast-on, knit, purl, bind-off.
Materials
Yarn recommendations
Herrschners, Suds & Scrub Yarn, fiber content: polyester 100%; 2.8 oz/80 g; 101 yards/93 meters, or any yarn that knits to gauge.
Sample used: 2/7, (⅓, ⅖, ½) oz/8, (9, 11, 14) g; 10, (12, 14, 18) yards/10, (11, 13, 17) meters.
One ball in Color No. 0002 Emerald colorway.
Knitting needles
- US size 8/5 mm, or size used to match gauge-straight or circular as you prefer.
Notions
Scissors, stitch marker (for RS of fabric), tapestry needle.

Gauge
17 sts x 27 rows over 4″/10 cm in seed stitch worked flat.
It is not necessary to match gauge for this pattern. If you do not match gauge, this will affect the size of your scrubby and yarn requirements.

Seed Scrubber: Herrschner’s Suds & Scrub Free Knit Scrubby Pattern Instructions
Cast-on
Using your favorite cast-on method, CO 11, (13, 15, 17) sts.
Seed Stitch
Row 1 RS: *K1, p1* to last st, k1, turn. Place st marker on the RS of the fabric.
Row 2 WS: *K1, p1* to last st, k1, turn.
Repeat Rows 1 & 2 a total of 12, (13, 15, 17) times. You will work a total of 24, (26, 30, 34) rows ending on a Row 2.
If you prefer to measure your work rather than track rows, follow these instructions: Repeat Rows 1 & 2 until your piece measures 3.5, (4, 4.5, 5) inches or 9, (9.5, 11, 12.5) cm ending on a Row 2.
Bind-off
Using your favorite bind-off method, BO all stitches.
Finishing
Cut a tail. Weave in ends. Block as desired.
