Watermelon Wedge Scrub Free Knit Pattern Introduction
Is it really summer without a juicy slice of watermelon? Whether you’re out on a picnic or cooling off after a swim, watermelon is a classic summer treat!
That’s why I just had to create a Watermelon Wedge Scrub! This fun and simple project is knit flat with easy decreases—no tricky colorwork or short rows needed. It’s a quick knit that brings a sweet summer vibe to your kitchen or bath.
Feel free to make this scrubby for yourself, as a gift, or even to sell. If you do sell your finished pieces, please credit me for the pattern.

This project is suited for knitters who are comfortable with or who are open to learning the following skills and techniques:
Bind-off, cast-on, knit, knit two together.

Materials
Yarn recommendations
Herrschners Suds & Scrub, fiber content: polyester 100%; 101 yards/93 meters; 2.8 oz/80 g or similar yarn that knits to gauge.
Sample used a total of 10 (15) yards/9 (14) meters; 0.3 (0.4) oz/8 (12) g; 1 ball each in Strawberries and Emerald colorways.
MC: 7 (10) yards/6 (9) meters, 1 ball.
CC: 3 (5) yards/3 (5) meters, 1 ball.
Knitting needles
US size 8/5 mm, or size used to match gauge – straight or circular as you prefer.
Notions
Five stitch markers (one locking for RS of fabric), scissors, tapestry needle.
Gauge
14 sts x 28 rows over 4″/10 cm in garter stitch worked flat.

Watermelon Wedge Scrub Free Knit Pattern Notes and Techniques

Pattern Notes
- For Fruit Knitting rows, all dec are worked on the RS of fabric.
- The Final Rows will work dec on both the RS and WS of fabric.
Techniques Used
Knit 2 together (k2tog)
- Insert your RH needle into two sts on the LH needle knitwise at the same time.
- Wrap your working yarn around the RH needle as if to knit.
- Pull the working yarn through both sts as if to knit.
- Drop both sts from the LH needle.

Watermelon Wedge Scrub Free Knit Pattern Instructions

Cast-on
Using your favorite cast-on method and CC, CO 29 (37) sts.
Rind Knitting (All with CC)
Row 1 (RS): K7 (9), pm, k7 (9), pm, k1, pm, K7 (9), pm, k7 (9).
Row 2 (WS): *K* across, slipping all m.
Cut a 5-8 inch/13-20 cm tail. Place a locking marker on RS of fabric.
Fruit Knitting (All with MC)
Row 1 (RS): *K* to 2 sts bef m, k2tog, sm, *k* to 2 sts bef m, k2tog, sm, k1, sm, k2tog, *k* to m, sm, k2tog, *k* to end. Dec 4 sts, total sts 25 (33).
Row 2 (WS): *K* across, slipping all m.
Work Rows 1 & 2 a total of 6 (8) times, until you have 5 sts remaining. You will now have worked a total of 14 (18) rows, ending on a Row 2. See St Count Per Repeat of Rows 1-2 below. Proceed to instructions for Final Rows.

Repeat 3 – 17 sts
Repeat 4 – 13 sts
Repeat 5 – 9 sts
Repeat 6 – 5 sts
Size Large
Repeat 2 – 29 sts
Repeat 3 – 25 sts
Repeat 4 – 21 sts
Repeat 5 – 17 sts
Repeat 6 – 13 sts
Repeat 7 – 9 sts
Repeat 8 – 5 sts
Final Rows (All with MC)
Row 1 (RS): K2tog, k3. Total sts 4.
Row 2 (WS): K2tog, k2. Total sts 3.
Proceed to Bind-Off Instructions.
Bind-off
Using your preferred BO method and MC, BO all sts.
Finishing
Cut a tail. Weave in ends. Block as desired.
