And while this yarn is bulky weight yarn, it’s also super lightweight. So the Comfy Cozy Cowl will sit comfortably around your neck, keeping you warm and cozy without weighing you down.

Knit in the round using only the most classic stitch patterns – stockinette and 2×2 ribbing. No increases or decreases, just basic knit and purl stitches in the round. This knits up quickly in bulky weight yarn. And with it being simple stockinette, it’s easy to knit anywhere. So, put on your favorite show and happy knitting!

Lion Brand Yarns, Feels Like Bliss, fiber content: nylon 100%; 109 yards/100 meters; 3.5 oz/100 g, or similar yarn that knits to gauge.

Sample used 122 (178, 254) yards/112 (163, 232) meters; 4 (5.75, 8.25) oz/112 (163, 232) g; 2 (2, 3) balls. Sample size (Teen) used 2 balls in Dusk colorway.

But of course, you can choose whatever bulky weight yarn you like or have on hand – for some inspiration, please scroll to the bottom of this post to see what the test knitters used and what they had to say about yarn options.

Gauge you need to knit your Comfy Cozy Cowl

14 sts x 18 rounds over 4″/10 cm in stockinette stitch in the round.

They found that they either got on the nose, or very close to matching gauge. You can always cast-on and see how your gauge is once you have on a some rounds.

Customize your Comfy Cozy Cowl using these options!

You are welcome to use these customization options to make your cowl wider, thinner, taller or shorter. You can also easily combine any of these options to make the cowl exactly how you want it to be. Just remember that the amount of yarn needed will vary depending on the options you choose.

Option 1: Taller Cowl

Taller: Continue knitting in stockinette stitch until you reach about ½ an inch from your desired height. Then switch to the final Rib Knitting, bind-off and finish.

Option 2: Shorter Cowl

Stop knitting in stockinette stitch when you reach about ½ an inch from your desired height. Then switch to the final Rib Knitting, bind-off and finish.

Option 3: Wider Cowl

To make your cowl wider you will need to add more stitches to your cast-on. Be sure to do this in multiples of 4 so that your 2×2 rib pattern can still work. Adding 4 stitches will increase the width by a little more than an inch.

Option 4: Thinner Cowl

To make your cowl thinner you will need to remove stitches from your cast-on. Be sure to do this in multiples of 4 so that your 2×2 rib pattern can still work. Removing 4 stitches will decrease the width by a little more than an inch.

Comfy Cozy Cowl knit with Isaac Mizrahi Craft Bulky

Gerri knit the teen size cowl using Isaac Mizrahi Craft Bulky and used less than 1 ball. The finished measurements are 21 inch circumference and 9 inches tall.

This yarn is a bit more bulky than the recommended yarn, and so Gerri cast-on fewer stitches and had a different gauge than written in the pattern.

Gerri shared that they enjoyed making this pattern and are so glad it turned out so well.

Comfy Cozy Cowl knit with yarn held double!

Karen knit the child size cowl using Berocco Vintage (45 grams) and Drops Brushed Alpaca Silk (26 grams). The finished measurements are 18.5 inches circumference and 9.75 inches tall.

I love holding yarn double, especially using something like Drops Brushed Alpaca Silk. I love that marled look Karen achieved and I’m sure it’s super warm.

“Gerri shared that they enjoyed making this pattern and are so glad it turned out so well. “This was an exceptionally clear, well written pattern and would recommend this pattern for new beginners as well as experienced knitters!” -Karen
